The Authority of Scripture

Published December 18, 2025

In a noisy world where opinions shout and truth feels negotiable, God has not left His people guessing. He has spoken—and He still speaks—through His Word. The Bible is not merely a religious book we consult when convenient; it is the living, authoritative voice of God for His people.

Paul reminded young Timothy, serving in uncertain times, that "All Scripture is breathed out by God" (2 Timothy 3:16). This means the authority of Scripture doesn't rest in church tradition, cultural trends, or personal preference, but in God Himself. Because God is true, His Word is true. Jesus prayed, "Your word is truth" (John 17:17), and He lived under its authority, answering temptation with the simple declaration: "It is written" (Matthew 4:4).

When Scripture speaks, God speaks. It teaches us what to believe, corrects us when we wander, and trains us to live in ways that honor Christ. The church doesn't stand over the Word—the church stands under it. Our feelings may shift and the world may change, but "the word of the Lord remains forever" (1 Peter 1:25).

Let us be a people who open our Bibles with humility, trust them fully, and obey them courageously. To submit to Scripture is to submit to Christ Himself.
